Zerion Tax at a Glance

Last updated: June 2026
  • Every token swap, DeFi interaction that results in a disposal, and receipt of tokens as income tracked by Zerion is a potential taxable event. Receiving tokens in exchange for services or as rewards is income at fair market value. Tax compliance is your personal responsibility.
  • CoinTracking supports Zerion CSV import. Export your transaction history from Zerion and upload it to CoinTracking. All swaps, DeFi activity and multi-chain transactions across ETH, Polygon, Arbitrum and more are supported.
  • Transferring tokens between your own wallets tracked by Zerion, and holding tokens in connected wallets, are generally not taxable events. Only disposals โ€” swapping, selling or spending tokens โ€” trigger a tax obligation.
  • Tax compliance is your responsibility. Zerion is a non-EU platform and is not an EU-regulated CASP subject to DAC8. Your tax authority will not receive automatic reports from Zerion. You are required to report all taxable gains and income from your Zerion activity in your annual tax return.

Zerion and Your Crypto Tax Obligations

Zerion is an Ethereum and multi-chain DeFi portfolio tracker and wallet aggregator that allows users to connect multiple wallets and track their entire DeFi portfolio in one interface. It supports Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and many other EVM-compatible chains. Zerion provides a unified view of token balances, transaction history, NFT holdings, and DeFi positions across all connected wallets.

As a non-EU platform, Zerion is not subject to EU DAC8 reporting obligations. This means your tax authority will not receive automatic reports of your Zerion-tracked activity โ€” you are responsible for declaring all taxable events in your annual tax return.

Zerion users need to account for:

  • Token swaps across all tracked chains (taxable disposals)
  • DeFi interactions that result in token disposals (e.g. providing liquidity, removing liquidity at a gain)
  • Receiving tokens as rewards, yield, or income (taxable at FMV on date received)
  • Cross-chain bridge transfers that result in disposals

Crypto Tax Basics for Zerion Users

Zerion users are typically active DeFi participants tracking activity across multiple chains. Here are the key tax rules that apply to Zerion-tracked activity.

Token swaps are taxable disposals

Every time you swap one token for another using a DEX or DeFi protocol tracked by Zerion โ€” whether on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum or any other chain โ€” you are disposing of the token you gave and acquiring the token you received. The taxable gain or loss equals the difference between the fair market value of the token at the time of the swap and your original acquisition cost. CoinTracking imports all Zerion swap data and calculates the gain or loss on each swap.

DeFi rewards and yield are income

Tokens received as DeFi rewards, liquidity mining rewards, staking yield, or airdrop income tracked by Zerion are generally treated as ordinary income at the fair market value on the date of receipt. In Germany, this falls under ยง 22 EStG (other income). CoinTracking records each reward or yield payment as an income event with the correct FMV timestamp.

Multi-chain activity: each chain is tracked separately

Zerion aggregates activity from Ethereum mainnet, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and other EVM chains. Each transaction on each chain is independently taxable if it constitutes a disposal. CoinTracking imports your full multi-chain transaction history from your Zerion CSV export, preserving the chain, timestamp and asset details for each transaction.

Wallet-to-wallet transfers are not disposals

Transferring tokens between your own wallets โ€” all of which may be tracked by Zerion โ€” is generally not a taxable event, as no disposal occurs. However, the transfer must be correctly identified as an internal transfer (not a sale) in CoinTracking to avoid incorrectly triggering a taxable event. CoinTracking\'s transfer matching tool helps identify and reconcile these transfers.

DAC8 is not applicable to Zerion

The EU DAC8 directive requires EU-regulated crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) to automatically report transaction data to EU tax authorities from 1 January 2026. Zerion is a non-EU platform and is not regulated as a CASP under EU MiCAR. It is not subject to DAC8. Users in the EU or elsewhere must self-report all Zerion-tracked activity โ€” it will not be reported on their behalf.

How to Calculate Your Zerion Taxes

Active DeFi users tracked by Zerion can accumulate hundreds or thousands of transactions across multiple chains in a single year โ€” each swap, reward receipt or DeFi interaction with its own FMV, cost basis and tax classification. Manually tracking each event across Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum and other chains is extremely time-consuming and error-prone.

CoinTracking imports your full Zerion transaction history from your CSV export, assigns the correct acquisition date and market price to every token, and applies your chosen cost-basis method (FIFO, LIFO, HIFO) across all chains. It then generates a jurisdiction-specific tax report โ€” ready for your accountant or tax authority in Germany, the UK, the US, Australia and beyond.

In the Zerion app or web interface, navigate to your portfolio or transaction history and look for the export or download option to generate a CSV file. Upload it to CoinTracking using the import search.

Yes โ€” in most jurisdictions, swapping one cryptocurrency for another via Zerion is treated as a disposal of the asset you sold and an acquisition of the new asset. Each swap is a separate taxable event. CoinTracking imports all Zerion swap data from your CSV and calculates the gain or loss on each swap individually.

Zerion is a non-EU platform and is not subject to EU DAC8 reporting obligations. Tax compliance for Zerion activity is your personal responsibility in your country of residence.

Germany: FIFO per wallet (ยง 23 EStG). US: FIFO or specific identification (IRS). UK: Section 104 pooling (HMRC). CoinTracking supports FIFO, LIFO, HIFO and all major methods โ€” important for DeFi users with many small transactions across multiple chains.
